The Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) certification program has been created to fill this niche and is an important step on the way to obtaining one's MCSD designation.
The MCAD is designed for IT professionals who design, develop, and maintain medium-scale applications, data services, web clients, application components, desktop interfaces, etc. The candidate's job role ranges over a wide area, including everything from building and deploying solutions to specifying and implementing requirements.
